I think I may have worded it incorrectly when I mentioned we were think of doing a horror/dance film. I didn't mean typical horror where somebody is following somebody, as we all think that would be so cliche. I think we are going for a more emotional feel, some thing more dark almost like somebody is expressing there emotion through dance, which just happens to be at the same time as someone is being beaten. It is more about the contrast of the two and to trying to come away from the fairy tale, sugar coated feel that most musical/dance films seem to follow. That is just not realistic. I hope this idea is more appreciated and would help the group gain a better grade.

ReplyDeleteYour idea sounds very interesting and potentially very unique and exciting, however I am struggling to envisage what you are going to create. Whilst not a massive fan of musicals I have seen a few classics and am conscious these are not the sort of films you wish to emulate.
To help me better understand the direction you wish to take with this opening could you include some of the following in your blog.
Could you explain whether the dance will be part of 'real life' i.e. like a traditional MUSICAL like West Side Story/Guys and Dolls where the world around joins in the song and dance routine

or
will it take place in a dance studio and be used as a juxtaposition to the violence/emotion in another scene. So the character will dance but not 'randomly' as they walk down the street.

An important point to remember is that all music MUST be copyright free. That means you cannot use an existing artists music.
Could you explain the plot in more depth, are we in the real world? are we in the UK? Who is the main character (male/female/teen/black/white etc). Is the death murder/natural causes/disease/accidental/tragic incident.
As I've previously commented on Jack's blog the only thing I can currently think of that is remotely close to your idea is 'Dancer In The Dark'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNysuGZYDCY
which features a main character who is slowly going blind and who uses the noise around her to create music

One of you may wish to ask Santa for this as its only £6
